Press * to skip Verizon voicemail message

A few months ago I was listening to an NPR story that was bemoaning the inability to skip past the Verizon woman’s voice after listening to someone’s own recorded message:

“At the tone please record your message, when you finish recording you may hang up, or press one for more options. To leave a callback number, press five”

There are petitions to remove this “feature” as well as widespread hate. I’ve never used or heard of anyone who ever used any of the advanced options referred to in the message, but we each have to waste 30 seconds every voicemail waiting for it to go by.

After listening to the NPR story I Googled about to see if I could find a way around the dreaded voice, but to no avail. I searched again today and came across this FAQ that says to press ‘*’. Finally, I can leave a voicemail quickly and in peace!
